Not quite there yet.

Well, my paranoia about things going wrong was correct. I couldn't register for classes because I didn't go through the orientation, and I didn't go through the orientation because Owlnet never sent me a follow up email to schedule one. I'm blaming Owlnet for this. Even if it doesn't totally deserve it I'm blaming it because it makes me feel better.
But the day wasn't a total loss. I am scheduled (finally!) for an orientation and registration next week. I'm happy for that but registering for classes a week and half before school starts is cutting it reeeeally close, so I can't help but be nervous. The adviser I briefly talked to said "Oh, I hope there are some English classes left" which doesn't help my nerves at all. But whatever, that's next week.
I got my student ID card and a free squishy pair thing. I wandered around and misread a map and wandered around some more. I saw a man in a suit carrying a briefcase in one hand and a watermelon in the other. I made friends with a security guard and the lady at the parking lot. And now I'm really tired because I had to get up earlier than I have in two weeks.
Driving through the city didn't make me confident about housing. Certain areas I was considering are really ugly and shady looking. The El shutdown is making a mess of things and there were a million more buses out than usual and signs everywhere about where to find the shuttle buses. I'm really hoping to find a place where I don't have to deal with that subway line.
I'm trying to find a camera to take some pictures of myself. There are no pictures of me online from after 2005 or so, and I want there to be. The sunburn on my forehead has stopped peeling so I'll get my hair redone soon (I didn't want to go to a stylists if I was going to shed skin all over her). I should do before and after pictures.

Date: 2008-08-15 07:19 pm (UTC)Nooooo, I didn't drive in the city. My mom did. I felt a bit lame, going to the school with my mom, but I was glad for the company. Even with her driving it was scary. She doesn't like city driving either.
