Also, it's Friday the 13th

Yesterday's cure for boredom was to cook, specifically things I'd never tried making before. And I took pictures because...idk, everyone needs to see the shit I make, or something.

Decided to try my hand at dumplings, using this guide to put them together. Kind of improvised the vegetable filling. Some of the stuff was in there just because I wanted to use up what was in my fridge.

The dumpling-stuffing setup. (Not pictued: my laptop off to the side so I could watch Indiana Jones while assembling!)

Finished and ready to be, well, frozen. I'll eat them later XD

Scallion pancakes, tastiest things ever.

Aaaand, an attempt at tang yuan, black sesame dessert dumplings, in a ginger syrup. I messed up the black sesame filling by cooking it too long which let the sugar caramelize, so I ended up with a hardened lump instead of a paste. :( I tried to salvage it by using chunks of the lump to fill the dumpling dough, hoping it would soften when it was boiled, but it's crunchy and burnt tasting. Edible though, and the dough part turned out well, so I'll call it semi-fail.

And I gave the ginger syrup a chance, but too much ginger makes me feel sick :( Sorry, ginger, I just can't like you.

The pancakes look yummy!, and they seem really easy to make too. I need to learn some more easy recipes haha

They are easy! Oily though, so it's def something to eat on the side with something else.

I use tastespotting.com (http://www.tastespotting.com) to find recipes. It's a mix of easy stuff and really fancy difficult stuff, but there's a ton of recipes. And I like that it has pictures :)
